19 March 2020: Teachers’ Assembly – An education meet with teachers of public primary schools under the Kolkata Primary School Council as part of the two-year collaborative project, Achieving Quality of Education through Enhanced Teachers’ Capabilities, was organised at Sisir Mancha, Kolkata by Pratichi Institute and supported by Tech Mahindra Foundation. Professor Amartya Sen attended the event.

27 January, 2020: Nurturing a Fearless Classroom – An education meet with teachers of public primary schools under the Kolkata Primary School Council as part of the two-year collaborative project, Achieving Quality of Education through Enhanced Teachers’ Capabilities, was organised at Seva Kendra, Kolkata by Pratichi Institute and supported by Tech Mahindra Foundation.

23 June, 2019: Making Mathematics Exciting – A workshop on teaching mathematics at the primary level, with teachers of public primary schools under the Kolkata Primary School Council as part of the two-year collaborative project, Achieving Quality of Education through Enhanced Teachers’ Capabilities, was organised at The Calcutta Orphanage Primary School, Kolkata by Pratichi Institute and supported by Tech Mahindra Foundation.

Face-to-face Public Events

29 June, 2019: New Education Policy 2019 (Draft) – This open forum discussion on such an important topic was jointly organised by Pratichi Institute and Science Communicators Forum at the Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) auditorium in East Kolkata. About a 100 people attended and the noted scholar, Dr Sukanta Chaudhuri conducted the proceedings.

13 June, 2019: Preparation for a Mathematics Workshop – This meeting conducted at the Calcutta Orphanage School was a preliminary planning session involving primary school-teachers for organising a Mathematics workshop later.

07 June 2019: Criteria for Evaluation – This workshop for working primary school-teachers was conducted at the Calcutta Orphanage School and elicited good response from the teaching community. It was focused on visualizing and implementing student-centred schemes for proper evaluation.

28 & 29 November, 2018: Report Writing Workshop – This two-day event was organised by Pratichi Institute along with Shiksha Alochona in Baduria North. It was attended by 15 teachers from the Kolkata circle, the Sarupnagar circle, the Baduria North circle and the Khardaha circle. The workshop aimed at empowering school-teachers to write meaningful progress reports.

26 & 27 November, 2018: Using Teaching and Learning Materials (TLM) – This workshop for school-teachers was organised at Jhargram Primary School to enable them to think in a creative manner and use TLM tools as part of their regular instructional methodology in order to make learning more enjoyable and easy to grasp for primary school students. A total of 40 participants from Jhargram, Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur took part in this two-day event.

31 March, 2018: The West Bengal Teachers’ Association (WBTA), a state-level body of teachers, organised a meeting to discuss the state’s syllabus and curriculum, the appointment of experts to form a syllabus committee, systems of evaluation and examination and the importance of fostering creativity. Pratichi representatives participated in an advisory capacity while nearly a hundred teachers from the district were in attendance.

18 February, 2018: Using StoryWeaver Texts to Facilitate a Reading Culture – This workshop for primary school-teachers was organised by Pratichi Institute in association with Shiksha Alochona and Pratham Books, and participants from 13 districts of West Bengal attended the session. The issues discussed were the importance of reading and how the culture of reading could be incorporated within the classroom. StoryWeaver, “a platform that hosts stories in languages from all across India – and beyond” provided the technical knowhow.
